PUBLIC HEALTH RECOMMENDATION ON FACE MASK USE

Cloth face coverings are homemade or manufactured face masks. There is limited evidence to suggest that the use of cloth face coverings helps reduce disease transmission. Face coverings are not considered personal protection equipment (PPE) used in healthcare settings.

-You may choose to wear a cloth face covering when out in public, for example to the grocery store or to pick up other necessities, especially in areas of significant community-based transmission of COVID-19. Cloth face coverings should not be placed on: Young children under age 2, Anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the covering without assistance

-Cloth face covers are used in addition to social distancing (stay-at-home, maintain 6 feet of separation in public or work setting) and hand hygiene. Wash or sanitize your hands before and after touching the face cover and adjusting the cover Wash the face cover in hot water after use or daily Avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes

-Do not use medical grade masks as a face cover

-Wearing a cloth face cover is not a substitute for social distancing (maintaining 6ft from other people) or frequently washing your hands

Steps to putting on and off a cloth face covering* 1. Before putting on the covering, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or rub your hands together thoroughly with alcohol-based hand sanitizer. 2. Holding the covering by the ear loops, make sure the metallic strip is at the top of the covering and positioned against the bridge of your nose. 3. Hold the covering by both ear loops and place one loop over each ear. 4. Mold the bendable metallic upper strip to the shape of your nose by pinching and pressing down on it with your fingers. 5. Pull the bottom of the covering over your mouth and chin. 6. Be sure the mask fits snugly. 7. Don’t touch the covering or your face once in position. 8. After taking off the covering, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or rub your hands together thoroughly with alcohol-based hand sanitizer

Wash the re-usable cloth face covering daily with your regular laundry; lay flat to air dry.
