Increase in COVID-19 taking hold in southwest Minnesota

A playground was closed in Worthington due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

WORTHINGTON, MINN. – For weeks, Alan Oberloh and others living in this southwestern Minnesota prairie town near the South Dakota border braced for what they believed was inevitable: an outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.

By Sunday, those fears were more than realized when the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases soared to 69 in Nobles County - a sharp increase from the two cases they had just days ago. And the numbers are expected to continue climbing.
