Northwest Minnesota Emergency Disaster Recovery Fund Now Accepting Grant Applications


Grants may be made to nonprofit organizations, schools, or units of government located in or significantly serving the 12-county and two tribal nation region.

The two tribal nations are Red Lake and White Earth. The 12 counties are: Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau.

Applicants may serve individuals, businesses/organizations, or communities, but individuals and businesses may not apply directly for grants at this time. Currently we do not have adequate funds to open loans or grants for small businesses in the region.


Applicants can request up to $5,000 in each request. If funding allows, applicants may be eligible to submit multiple requests with a minimum of six weeks between applications.


• Demonstrates a need for funding due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of following public health recommendations taken to flatten the curve of COVID-19, for the purpose of either;

• Continuity of operations support due to increased expenses or decreased revenue;

• Providing new, increased, or changed support to affected people, organizations, businesses, or communities.

• Organizations must comply with our Diversity and Non-Discrimination Policy


High priority needs based on the results of our community survey and community and region-wide conversations include, but are not limited to:

• Organizations providing nutrition/food to those significantly impacted

• Organizations providing supports for the low income, elderly, and vulnerable

• Tribal governments and tribal nonprofts

• Organizations providing supports for household needs such as heating, utilities, etc.

• Organizations sheltering those experiencing homelessness for cleaning supplies and the isolation of the most vulnerable
