Peterson Welcomes Announcement of General CRP Acreage Enrollment

WASHINGTON (March 26, 2020) - Representative Collin Peterson, Chair of the House Agriculture Committee, welcomed news Thursday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency will accept more than 3.4 million acres in the recently completed General Sign-up period for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

The 2018 Farm Bill increased the nationwide acreage limit for CRP with the total number of enrolled acres capped at 24.5 million acres in 2020, growing to 27 million by 2023.

“CRP is a great example of a successful partnership between the Federal government and farmers and ranchers that helps provide incentives to create wildlife habitat, control soil erosion, and improve water quality,” said Peterson.

USDA indicated that more than over 4,000 offers totaling over 105,000 acceptable acres were accepted in Minnesota.

“I also want to remind our cow-calf operators about the CRP Grassland option that helps provide an incentive to keep land in grass and provides the natural benefits to grassland that running livestock provides. And lastly my thanks to the dedicated field staff of the Farm Service Agency and the Natural Resources Conservation Service as they strive to serve producers while safeguarding their own health.”
