Minnesota hospitals rush to get ready as coronavirus cases rise to 262

Abbott Northwestern's Director of Facilities Steve Waderich showed off new "High Efficiency Filtration" fan units heading to rooms being prepared Tuesday in Minneapolis.

Hospitals have accelerated response plans for COVID-19 and the creation of spillover locations for infected patients, as the pandemic has now reached 262 confirmed cases in Minnesota.

Hotels, shuttered nursing homes and public buildings are being eyed as solutions to the crush of patients needing hospital care that is expected in the coming weeks, said Dr. John Hick, medical director of Hennepin Healthcare and the Metro Health & Medical Preparedness Coalition that is mapping out a metro-wide response to the pandemic.
