Red Lake Lady Warriors advance in Section 8A with 77-57 win over Goodridge/Grygla - P11

Will play Cass Lake at 5:15 PM on Saturday, February 29 at the REA in Thief River Falls

RED LAKE, MN - On December 12, 2019, the Red Lake Lady Warriors played the Goodridge/Grygla Chargers at the NCTC Tournament, losing 59-53.

It was a different story on Thursday, February 27, 2020 when the two clashed in the opening round of Class A - Section 8 Girls Basketball in Red Lake.

Goodridge/Grygla, seeded #6 in the tournament, scored first in the game and built up a 6-2 lead early, until the Lady Warriors, seeded #3, tied the score and went ahead 9-8 at the 12:28 mark of the first half. Red Lake would lead the game the rest of the way.

Although Red Lake was up by as much as 10-points in the first half, the Chargers kept clawing back with little scoring spurts of their own. By the half's end Red Lake lead 28-22.

Goodridge/Grygla tied the game at the 16:26 mark of the second half, but once again Red Lake went ahead and built up a lead that they wouldn't lose again, finishing 77-57.

Kelanna McClain led all scorers with 24 points on the night for Red Lake, Gerika Kingbird ended with 19 points and Autumn Holthusen hit for 17.'

Vivian Coan had 16 for the Chargers, with Caitlyn Jacobson hitting 15 and Cha=loe Kuznia hitting for 10.

Red Lake was 14 of 25 from the freethrow line, while Goodridge/Gryla shot 7 of 10 freethrows.

The win moved Red Lake to 18-9 on the season, while Goodridge/Grygla's season ended at 7-20.

The Lady Warriors will play Cass Lake-Bena, the #2 seed, on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls at 5:15 PM. Throughout the season the teams have each won on their home gyms against each other, and both by 14 points. Cass Lake's record is 20-7 with their win over Lake of the Woods in Section 8.

In other action in Section 8, #1 Fosston beat #9 Win-E-Mac 54-40, #4 Clearbrook-Gonvick knocked off #7 Mahnomen/Waubun 63-47, #2 Cass Lake Bena took down #7 Lake of the Woods 73-36, #1 Warren Alvarado Oslo defeated #9 Fertile Beltrami 48-25, #4 BGMR set back #5 Red Lake Falls 71-60, #6 Stephen Argyle upset #3 Sacred Heart 58-35, and #2 RLCC eliminated #7 Northern Freeze 51-47.
