March 29, 1958 - February 17, 2020

Ralph Gene Brown, better known as "Cubby", left this earth on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 3 a.m. to reign with Jesus at the age of 61 years. Cubby peacefully went to sleep in Jesus at Essentia Hospital in Duluth, MN, after being attended to by excellent medical professionals.

Cubby was born March 29, 1958, to Augustus and Mabel (Leaf) Brown. He was an educated Indigenous man from The White Earth Reservation. Cubby graduated from Waubun High School with the class of 1976. In the 1980's, he attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN. Cubby furthered his education at MSUM in Moorhead, MN, majoring in History and Indigenous Studies. He worked in the education system in Minneapolis, MN. Cubby had numerous other jobs throughout his life, and not to forget that he built an octagon style log cabin in Red Lake, MN.

Cubby was a natural storyteller with a great sense of humor. He was a brilliant and humble person with a kind, caring heart. He was a friend to many and found great joy in helping others. Cubby was very proud of his Native Culture. He was considered a true woodsman, gathering berries, nuts, and natural medicines from the woods and also the makings for swamp tea. He was an accomplished carpenter who enjoyed wood carving. Cubby also liked gardening, hunting, fishing and harvesting wild rice. He thoroughly enjoyed preparing and eating authentic native food. A Chi-Miigweh to our parents for all the cultural teachings they instilled in all twelve of us.

CUBBY WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN, ALL HIS GOODNESS AND KINDNESS HE EXPRESSED TO PEOPLE THROUGHOUT HIS (CUBBY LIFE)!

Cubby is survived by his siblings: Kenneth (Aurelia) Brown, Tim (Tammy) Brown, Franklin Brown, Beverly (Jim Sr.) Libby, Nancy (Larry) Larson and Jesse Foster.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Augustus Brown; brothers: August "Butch", Roger, Ronald, and Thomas; sister and brother-in-law, Mae and Joe Foster; nieces and nephews: Paige Brown, Frank J. Brown, Dominic Brown, Buster "Heman" Brown, Ricky Brown, Judy Brown, Nicolette Brown; and great nephew, Jamison Brown.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church, White Earth, MN. Visitation will take place Thursday, February 20, 2020, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Chief Cornerstone Cemetery, White Earth, MN.
