Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Director of Counseling and Extension Services
DEPARTMENT: Counseling, Extension, and Continuing Education
REPORTS TO: President
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
START DATE: Open until filled
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The Director of Counseling and Extension Services is responsible
for individual counseling with students to assist them in succeeding in the college experience and
navigating life's obstacles. Extension services are directly related to health and wellness
services, workshops, training sessions, and opportunities for students, staff, and community
members.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Counseling and Extension Services reports directly to
the President and indirectly to the Vice President of Operations and Academic Affairs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are
not limited to the following:
● Plan, coordinate, and supervise all Community Education, Continuing Education, and
Extension events, training, workshops, courses, and credits, and aligns those events with
HLC, BIE, Department of Education, and Land-Grant funding requirements (attached).
● Works directly with the Director of Equity, Cultural Education, and Archives to develop
curricula and identify instructors for Continuing Education and Extension.
● Ensure that RLNC maintains files with required documentation for non-student
participants of events (attached) and transcripts all continuing education credits earned.
● Network with community leaders to identify workforce development needs and make
recommendations to the Administrative Team on ways that RLNC can meet those needs.
● Participate in the Academic Events Committee to coordinate events with faculty
members
● Develop and implement co-curricular assessment tools for events and course-embedded
assessment through the use of Populi or Canvas online systems
● Distribute and collect surveys to establish community educational needs and desired
community/continuing education programming
● Provide co-curricular assessment data to the Director of Assessment and Institutional
Effectiveness for analysis and reporting
● Adopt the International Association for Continuing Education and Training Standards
(IACET) - see https://www.iacet.org
● Update and maintain the RLNC manual for Continuing Education standards and
guidelines, including detailed guidelines on calculating continuing education units
● Provide individual counseling services to students who have been referred by Student
Success counselors or faculty members
● Participate in other committees as assigned
● Perform other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
● Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of RLNC
● Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and demonstrated ability to work with Native
communities
● Knowledge of Learning Management Systems and online educational tools.
● Ability to effectively coordinate events
● Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently
● Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect
data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
● Master's degree in Counseling or related field
● Proficiency in the use of Microsoft and Google applications
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
● Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check
● Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
● Possession of a valid MN driver's license
