Eighth Annual Lakota Games on Ice celebrates Native American traditions

The same games that the Lakota Sioux Native Americans enjoyed nearly two centuries ago were played Saturday afternoon on the ice of Lake Mitchell.

For the past eight years, Rosebud Sioux Tribe member Mike Marshall has been keeping the tradition of the Lakota Sioux Native American games alive in Mitchell, next to the Prehistoric Indian Village. As a Native American with ancestors who were a part of the Lakota Sioux Tribe that settled in South Dakota in the mid-1700s, Marshall is proud to celebrate his cultural heritage with people during the annual Lakota Games on Ice.
