Red Lake Warriors and Lady Warriors both Winners in Thursday Double-Header with Kelliher-Northome - P7

Lady Warriors win 86-50; Red Lake Boys win 65-52

RED LAKE, MN - Despite the cold weather outside, there was plenty of hot action at both the High School Gym and the Middle School gym on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

The 8th Grade Boys game and the Junior Varsity games were close games throughout their matches, with Kelliher-Northome getting both wins.

8th Grade Girls and Junior Varsity games were also played, but no report was received on them.

In the High School gym the first to take the court in the double-header was the Red Lake Lady Warriors taking on the Kelliher-Northome Lady Mustangs at 6 PM.

Both teams came out to battle and exchanged baskets early, but the Lady Warriors began to press and run and built up a 43-28 lead at the end of the first half.

Red Lake did pretty much the same in the second half, matching what they scored in the first half and cruised to the 86-50 win.

Gerika Kingbird led all scorers with 24 points on the night, LaTayla Pemberton added 12, Autumn Holthusen hit for 10 and Kaylynn Chaboyea and Kelanna McClain both had 10 points,.

For the Lady Mustangs Monica Johnson had 17 points, Lyndle Charnoski added 10 and Kylie Owen hit for 9 points.

The Lady Warriors move up to 6-8 on the season, while Kelliher-Northome drops to 5-10.

Red Lake will travel to Clearbrook to take on the Clearbrook-Gonvick Lady Bears on Friday, January 17th in another Double-Header, travel to Nevis on January 21 and host Northwoods on January 23rd.

In the second game of the double-header, the Red Lake Warriors were pitted against the Kelliher-Northome Mustangs. The two had met early in the season with Red Lake winning 66-37.

The Mustangs were an improved team this time, as they kept pace with the Warriors in the first half, just trailing by 4 points, 25-21.

Kelliher-Northome put up a good fight pretty much most of the second half, but Red Lake kept running and making their shots count, winning 65-52 at the buzzer.

Delwyn Holthusen III led all scorers with 26 points and Gerald Kingbird Jr. had 13.

Jack Gilbert led the Mustangs with 15 points, Benji Jourdain added 10 and Cedrick Barrett hit for 9 points.

The win moved the Warriors to 6-7 on the season, while the Mustangs dropped to 2-10.

Red Lake will travel to Clearbrook to take on the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears on Friday, January 17th in another Double-Header, travel to Nevis on January 21 and travel to Blackduck on January 24th.
