REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY CELEBRATION

Since 1998, community members across the Twin Cities have gathered to celebrate the life and work of Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. at Powderhorn Park in South Minneapolis. For the past twenty-two years, participants partake in performances and activities that highlight Dr. King's achievements and apply his wisdom to our life today.

This community celebration was founded by Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA) and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB). This partnership has created one of the most well-attended daytime and family-friendly Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. Celebrations in the Twin Cities. A focus on engaging local artists, organizations, and restaurants to provide a fun, memorable and meaningful experience that honors Dr. King sets it apart.

Get inspired for a year of advocacy in action on Monday, January 20th, 2020 at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day Celebration. In honor of Dr. King's work, PPNA is proud to highlight 91 organizations, small businesses, and groups united for equity, justice, and resources for all. The number 91 is linked to the number of years since Dr. King's birth that his life and memory has helped guide and uplift community.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at Powderhorn Park will welcome hundreds. The celebration will include a number of musical, theatrical, and storytelling selections by several highly acclaimed performers, including The Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus, The Native Pride Dancers, Gigi Bisong, and more. The first 150 kids will receive a free book thanks to Learner Publishing, ABDO Publishing, Book House, Moon Palace Books, Magers & Quinn Booksellers and Paperback Exchange. Kids and adults alike will enjoy a free community meal provided by Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que and White Castle.
