Kenneth J. Martin, age 89 of Carlton, died on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Essentia-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth due to complications from the results of a stroke. He was born to Lester and Caroline (Peach) Martin on October 27, 1930 in Cloquet, MN. Ken married Judith Roy on March 26, 1951 in Duluth. He went on to serve his country in the US Marines. Ken moved to Minneapolis to pursue a career in surveying which lasted a lifetime. He moved back to the area in 1979 and was the owner/operator of Martin Surveying until his retirement in 2016.

Ken was a strong, caring man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed old cars and going to car shows over the years. Ken loved to spend time with his family, camping, fishing, and hunting. Some of his highlights were fishing in Canada and flying in his brother's float plane. Ken was an "on the go" kind of a guy and always liked to fix things around the house; you could often find him in the garage working on cars or other projects.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Laverne Anderson and Lorraine Crotteau; and his brother, Edwin Martin. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Judith; his daughters, Lynn Martin and Laurie (Daniel) Kingsbury; his brother, Arthur (Linda Way) Martin; his grandchildren, Matthew (Maggie) Kingsbury and Jackie (Brandon Durand) Kingsbury; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family members; and many close friends.

A Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Nelson Funeral Care. Military honors provided by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. A luncheon will follow the service in the fellowship room. Interment will be at Pine River Cemetery in the spring.
