Michelle "Shelly" Lanee English, "Waawaatesi" which means "Firefly", age 51, began her journey to the other world on December 6th , 2019 in St. Paul, MN. She was born in Minneapolis, MN on May 29th, 1968 and spent most of her life in the Twin Cities. Shelly will best be remembered by her smile and her laugh. She was always telling jokes and had a great sense of humor. She was the best mother and grandmother she could be and was loved very much by her family. Shelly was very proud of who she was and where she came from. She was a well-known pacifist and promoted a life of peace....just kidding she was a strong spirited woman and proudly lived up to her nickname the Tasmanian Devil. With her larger-than-life personality there was never a dull moment when Shelly was around. She was very generous in her life and would give her last dollar to help any stranger in need. Shelly will be missed by all who knew her and loved her for who she was.

Shelly is preceded in death by her brother Justus Deegan; niece, Tonya Smith; her mother, Constance Monroe; father, Herman "Ludi" English; siblings, Dawn, Val, Mike and Ruth Monroe and her grandparents from both Red Lake Nation and White Earth Nation.

Shelly is survived by her daughters, Tannaka Sherman, Angela, Tammy and Christina English; her son, Marco Sherman; two grandchildren, Johnathan and Hunter; her siblings, Shaun Smith, Charice English, Lordez Deegan, Brendin Deegan, and Brian Dickenson; her extended family, Carol E., Lee E., Dale E., Best Uncle Ever Doug E., Dale E., Sandra E., Yvette E., Dave M., Henry M., Dennis M., Darryl K., Judy K., and Sue M., many other family and friends from the Red Lake and White Earth Nations.

Wake services for Shelly will begin at 7:00 p.m., December 14th and continue until her 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, December 16th all being held at the Old Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN. Pallbearers for Shelly will be Brendin Deegan, Brendin Deegan, Jr., Markus Deegan, Best Uncle Ever Doug English, Luis English, Joe Deegan, Wade Deegan and Joshua Jones. Her honorary pallbearer is her son Marco Sherman. Father George Ross will officiate. Interment will be in the English Family Cemetery at Red Lake, MN.
