Francis ”Bishie” ‘Bizhibawaawaashkeshi’ (Running Deer) Myron Desjarlait Jr., 83, of Minneapolis, Minnesota Journeyed to the Spirit World on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

He was born on February 18, 1936 in Red Lake the son of Francis Desjarlait Sr. and Mamie May Hobson.

Francis was formerly employed as a machinist for Honeywell. He also was an auto mechanic and a window washer.

He had a love for music he was a lead bass guitarist in his band “Renegades”. He was an artist who enjoyed sketching and drawing portraits of his native culture, family and friends. His hobbies include fishing, deer hunting, casino trips and working on cars.

Francis had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping people especially his friends where he resided for 29 years and anyone he came in contact with.

Survived by four daughters: Gail Korby of Fond du Lac, Cindy (Ricky) Sandera of Minneapolis, Connie Desjarlait of New Brighton and Kari (Stevie) Walker of Coon Rapids; 17 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren; a brother: Ted Gurneau of Red Lake; a sister: Carolyn Gurneau of St. Paul; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, two sons Gordon and Gerald Desjarlait and by a grandson.

Funeral services for Francis Desjarlait Jr. will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Sanctuary Covenant Church, 2018 Aldrich Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN. Pastor Edrin Williams will officiate. Interment at Mound Cemetery, Brooklyn Center, MN.

A wake will be held Thursday, December 12th at the church from 4-8 PM. Further visitation will be held Friday one hour prior to the service.

Casket Bearers will be Marcus Fleming, Gary Richardson Jr., Cody Thornton, Brandon Desjarlait, Dylan Thornton and Malachi Tamba.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted is serving the family.
