A light wintry mix is possible tonight through Friday...

Areas of light snow will develop this evening over eastern North Dakota and overnight over northwestern and west central Minnesota.

There is also the chance for freezing drizzle to develop with this activity.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of eastern North Dakota, west central and northwest Minnesota.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

Tonight will see the chance for light snow accumulations, which may mix with freezing drizzle. If the freezing drizzle occurs, roads may become icy quickly.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday

The chance for light snow or freezing drizzle will continue through the day Friday. The heaviest precipitation will spread into the region Friday night from the south, when remaining drizzle is expected to transition snow. Moderate to heavy snow is expected to develop across much of North Dakota and northern and central Minnesota Saturday, ending early Sunday. The heaviest accumulations are expected south of Highway 2 where storm total snowfall amounts of 8 to 15 inches or more are forecast. Snowfall amounts of generally less than 8 inches are expected north of Highway 2. East to northeast winds will increase by Saturday morning, with strongest winds west of the Red River valley across portions of eastern and central North dakota. In these areas, gusts could reach 45 mph causing considerable blowing and drifting snow. Conditions will gradually improve on Sunday afternoon.

No hazardous weather is expected Sunday night through Wednesday at this time.

A slight chance of snow before 3am, then a chance of snow and freezing drizzle between 3am and 5am, then a chance of snow after 5am. Cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 24 by 3am. Southeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday

A chance of snow before noon, then a chance of snow and freezing drizzle. Cloudy, with a high near 30. East southeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday Night

Snow likely, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle, becoming all snow after 5am. Cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 31 by midnight. East southeast wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday

Snow. Patchy blowing snow between 11am and 5pm. High near 32. Breezy, with an east wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Snow. Patchy blowing snow between 8pm and 10pm. Low around 21. Blustery, with an east northeast wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
