Outdoor Alliance Launches Public Lands Pledge Campaign

(Washington, D.C.) November 4, 2019 – Outdoor Alliance—in concert with its member organizations and partners across the outdoor industry—is launching a campaign today to galvanize the human-powered outdoor recreation community around an ambitious and forward-looking vision for our country’s public lands and waters. The Public Lands Pledge will gather 10,000+ signatures and stories to “demand a healthy and well-managed public lands system that is the envy of the world.”

Over the past several years, the outdoor recreation and conservation communities have been on the defensive. They have rallied against the Public Land Heist and even notched significant victories, including the passage of the John D. Dingell public lands package. While such efforts are essential, Outdoor Alliance now encourages their network to lean forward in addition to fighting back.

Moreso than nearly any issue, public lands are universally loved and bridge our diverse policy perspectives. With the 2020 elections ramping up in public discourse, the Public Lands Pledge campaign intends to spotlight and reframe our national conversation regarding public lands.

“Outdoor recreation on public lands is unifying and powerful—it brings together Americans from all walks of life. The Public Lands Pledge aims to harnesses this power in a positive and exciting way to protect the outdoors and the experiences they provide to all of us,” said Adam Cramer, Outdoor Alliance Executive Director.

Outdoor Alliance will deliver all pledge signatures, comments, and stories collected to 2020 presidential candidates, federal land management agencies, and lawmakers in Washington, D.C. in early 2020. The Public Lands Pledge campaign is designed to engage and inspire our nation’s leaders to speak up about the importance of public lands and waters, climate solutions, and the many benefits of conservation and recreation.
