Drug charge against former tribal police officer dropped; sentencing in other case moved

YAKIMA, Wash. — A federal drug charge against a former Yakama Nation tribal police officer has been dismissed and his sentencing on a federal child pornography charge has been rescheduled.

Lorenzo Elias Mendez, 39, was set to face trial in late September in U.S. District Court on one count of possessing more than 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Fired from his job after he was indicted in June 2018, Mendez had pleaded not guilty.
