Herbert Melvin May, age 49, Aagogehgozid Migizii ininii, which means "Voice of the Eagle Man", of Red Lake, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on Wednesday, October 30th, 2019 from the Red Lake IHS Hospital in Red Lake, MN. He was born to Melinda Elaine (Blue) and Herbert "Zemo" May, Sr. on March 25, 1970 in Red Lake, MN.

Herb was an awesome husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. He was a great artist and many of his art pieces are with his family and in tribal establishments. Herb was a champion singer and loved the drum. He was a mentor to many and composed many songs. As a member of the world class singing champions, the White Fish Bay Singers, Herb was able to travel all over the U.S. and Canada. He also sang with other championship groups throughout his powwow singing career. Back home in Red Lake, when called upon to sing for others on their journey, Herb was always there promptly. He had many talents. Herb loved to draw, paint, burn wood, make drums and sticks. He enjoyed teaching others new talents and spreading his knowledge. He was a well humored man, who enjoyed joking with anyone and everyone.

Family that welcome Herb to the spirit world are his parents, Melinda and Herbert "Zemo" May, Sr .; baby brother, Herbert May, Jr .; sisters, Marilyn, Roxanne and Gloria May; and many other relatives that have crossed over.

He leaves behind his wife, Carmen; children, Brett May of Ontario, Canada, Jacy May of Red Lake, Taylor (David) May and Shayne (Jeremiah) May both of Ontario, Canada and Fabian Kelly of Ontario, Canada; brother, William "Bill" May of Red Lake, special brother, Rob May; sisters, Karen, Carol, Laurie and Diana May and Ruth May-Whitefeather all of Red Lake, special sisters, Cora Rosebear and Jenny Urrutia; one grandchild, Zander Pitawanakwat, numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.

A wake for Herb will begin at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 2nd and continue until his 1:00 p.m. traditional service on Monday, November 4th all to be held at the Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake, MN. Mide Kiwenzii (Peter White) will be his Spiritual Advisor. Pallbearers for Herb are Wesley May, Will May, Jon Mountain, Arnie Martin, Steven Johnson, Jordan Kingbird, Chase Kingbird, Daris Rosebear, Dwight Stately, Trevor Lussier, Corey May and Chad Rosebear. His honorary pallbearers are Brett May, Taylor May, Shayne May, Jacy May, Fabian Kelly, Charlie Johnson, Doug Jourdain, Lee Lussier, Todd Smith, Brendan Strong, Lucille Kelly-Davis, Zander Pitawanakwat, David Pitawanakwat, Jason Kingbird, Kendall Kingbird, Randy Kingbird, Don Kingbird, Jeremiah Peters, Buck Jourdain, Maynard Cloud, Jr., Jerry Morgan, Keith Sumner, Vinny May, Ethan May, Josh Desjarlait, Gary Strong, Misty Lussier, Chloe May and the White Fish Bay Singers. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Red Lake, MN.
