POSITION SUMMARY:

Career development specialist will work with the Oshkiimaajitahdah TANF and 477 clienteles to develop resumes, teach employability skills and remove barriers to work toward self-sufficiency. Works with the Case managers in completing 4 of the 7 requirements to be contract ready. Complies with ABE standards for Conditional Work Referral clients. Reports to Executive Director, full-time position w/benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Track daily attendance and functions of the Career Development classroom to administer TABE tests, teach CDS class, financial skills, driver's education, develop resumes and conduct mock interviews.

• Facilitate job opportunities and advancement for clients.

• Manage cases, record keeping and reporting on all client activities as stipulated by Minnesota ABE program requirements.

• Conduct Interest and work style assessments and advice on career/education goals.

• Maintain bulletin board of current job vacancies.

• Maintain a tracking system of TANF/477 clients who have completed classes towards Contract Ready employment.

• Continually researching how to help clients get jobs, keep jobs and best assist in training.

• Develop curriculum as needed to assist in job retention.

• Assist in conducting career and job fairs.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• G.E.D/High School Diploma.

• Ability to professionally interact with colleagues and clientele with varying personalities, background and cultures.

• Poised, professional appearance and demeanor.

• Excellent oral and written skills, effective interpersonal skills.

• Comfortable in front of a class, ability to communicate content effectively.

• Experience preferred in job training and customer service.

• Computer skills include Windows Office tools: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Ability to navigate tracking software.

• Must have a valid Minnesota Driver's license and auto insurance.

• Abide by the New Beginnings Zero Tolerance Policy and Confidential Policy.

• Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and background check.
