Francis (Frank) Leon Sargent

November 28, 1939 ~ October 13, 2019 (age 79)

Francis (Frank) Leon Sargent, age 79, of Bemidji, joined the spirit world on October 13, 2019 at Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN. He was born on November 28, 1939 in Nay-Tah-Waush, MN, the son of George and Sophia (Bellanger) Sargent.

Frank was a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe Nation. He attended elementary school in Nay-Tah-Waush, junior high at Pipestone Indian School, and graduated from Warroad High School. Frank joined the United States Navy after high school and proudly served on three tours of duty. After his military service, Frank worked on tugboats on the Mississippi, as a jack-of-all-trades, as a handy man around Red Lake and Bemidji, and spent 10 years at the Nymore Ice Arena in charge of running the arena with his brother, Jerry.

Family that Frank joins are his parents, George and Sophia; siblings, Donna, Annette, Berndine, Marlys, Donald, William, Earl, Ervin and Jerry.

Frank leaves behind his son, Richard Wainwright; and his sister, Jean Smith.

A memorial service for Frank will be on October 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service, all being held at the White Earth Community Center in Cass Lake, MN. Father George Ross will officiate. Inurnment will be in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery at Nay-Tah-Waush MN at a later date.
