PFA Awards $9 Million in Latest Grant Round

St. Paul – The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) announced today more than $9 million in funding for four Minnesota cities.

“The Public Facilities Authority continues to be a valuable tool for investing in Minnesota,” said Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. “I can’t think of a better use for taxpayer dollars than making sure Minnesota’s drinking water is safe.”

“These infrastructure investments will protect our waterways and pave the way for future economic success,” said Steve Grove, commissioner of the Department of Employment and Economic Development. “I congratulate these four cities on their awards.”

Details on the awards are below:

Albertville, $2,000,000

The city will be making improvements to their wastewater treatment facility. Funding comes from a $2 million legislative appropriation and an additional $5,720,000 in local financing.

Battle Lake, $4,782,363

Battle Lake will be replacing portions of its water main distribution system, rehabbing portions of the sewer collection system and replacing the main lift station. Funding for the drinking water system improvements will come from a DWRF loan of $874,638, a DWRF principal forgiveness grant of $38,032, and a WIF grant of $1,625,220. Funding for the wastewater improvements will come from a Clean Water Revolving Fund (CWRF) loan of $1,740,267 and a WIF grant of $494,206. In addition to the grants, the two 1% loans are expected to save a combined $125,928 compared to market-rate financing.

Greenbush, $676,486

This project consists of installing and looping water mains, hydrants and gate valves in the area of Old Hwy 11. Funding comes from a $524,622 Water Infrastructure Fund (WIF) grant and a $151,864 DWRF loan. The 1% loan is expected to save $3,356 when compared to the costs of market-rate financing.

New London, $ 1,594,397

New London will replace and loop water mains along Cedar Street and 3rd Avenue. Funding will come from a 1% loan of $1,594,397 from the Drinking Water Revolving Fund (DWRF). The loan is expected to save $157,177 when compared to the cost market-rate financing.

The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) provides financing and technical assistance to help communities build and maintain public infrastructure that protects public health and the environment and promotes economic growth. Since its inception in 1987 the PFA has financed $4.5 billion in public infrastructure projects throughout Minnesota.
