Celebrating the First Annual Iron Range Pasty Festival

Three Minnesota Grown farmers markets collaborating on event

St. Paul, MN: The food that fueled Iron Range miners for generations will get its own celebration at the first annual Iron Range Pasty Festival in Mountain Iron on October 5, 2019.

Three area farmers markets – Cook, Virginia, and Hibbing – which are listed in the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s (MDA) Minnesota Grown Directory are collaborating with Tower Farmers Market and the Iron Range Partnership for Sustainability to feature all locally grown ingredients from Minnesota Grown member farms in the Iron Range area, including Willow Sedge Farm, Fat Chicken Farm and Bear Creek Acres.

“Minnesota Grown helps connect local farmers and farmers markets to customers interested in buying local,” Assistant Commissioner Patrice Bailey said. “We’re happy to be partnering on this new event to boost the visibility of local agriculture in the Iron Range.”

The event will feature fresh hot pasties, a craft beer garden, fun for kids and live music. Minnesota Grown is a sponsor of the event. Proceeds benefit the Iron Range Partnership for Sustainability. Tickets can be purchased in advance at brownpapertickets.com.

The Minnesota Grown Directory is available in print and online, and is a great resource for everything from meat and cheese to wine and honey direct from the farm or at farmers markets. The 2019 Directory includes more than 1,000 member farms, growers and farmers markets. Free, printed copies of the Directory may also be ordered by calling 1-888-TOURISM (1-888-868-7476).
