Hundreds to Rally in Duluth to Oppose Line 3 Tar Sands Pipeline

Duluth, MN -- On Saturday, September 28, hundreds of people will gather on the shores of Gichi-gami—Lake Superior— in Duluth for a rally and march to express their ongoing opposition to Enbridge’s Line 3 tar sands pipeline. The crowd will call on Gov. Walz, Lt. Gov. Flanagan, and Minnesota’s state agencies to deny state water crossing permits and do everything in their power to stop the pipeline from threatening Minnesota’s land, clean water, Tribal sovereignty, and our climate.

This rally will cap off a global week of action on climate that will begin on Friday, September 20 when hundreds of thousands of young activists will strike from school to protest their governments’ failure to take action to combat climate change.

If built, Line 3 would carry dirty tar sands oil through critical ecological and cultural resources including Ojibwe treaty land, wild rice lakes, and the headwaters of the Mississippi River, as well as enabling expanded development of tar sands, one of the most climate-polluting fuels on the planet.

WHO: The event is being lead by MN350, Sierra Club, Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light, Power Shift Network, Seek Joy, and Northfield Against Line 3 and will be attended by hundreds of people from across Minnesota and the Great Lakes region

WHEN: Saturday, September 28

• 12:30-1:30: Media availability for interviews with spokespeople

• 1:30-2:30: Rally in the park

• 2:30-4:00: March along Lake Superior, starting and ending at the park

• 4:00: Gichi-gami Gathering (festival with food, performances, interactive art, etc.)
