Peterson urges EPA to finalize wood heater rule

WASHINGTON-Representative Collin C. Peterson (D-MN) issued the following statement regarding the EPA’s failure to finalize the wood heater rule that would give Minnesota manufacturers more time to develop wood heater models that meet the EPA’s newer standards. Without action, wood heater manufacturers will be unable to sell their products beyond May 2020 creating challenges for their manufacturing lines and the retailers who sell these products.

“The Administration promised to provide regulatory relief for rural businesses, and I’m calling on the EPA to follow through on that promise. The delay in finalizing a strong rule is bad for wood heater manufacturers in Western Minnesota. I urge the EPA to provide the regulatory relief to American manufactures and support these workers.”

In April 2019, Congressman Peterson led a bipartisan letter urging the EPA to revise and finalize the New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for New Residential Wood Heaters, New Residential Hydronic Heaters and Forced-Air Furnaces.
