August 06, 1973 - September 01, 2019

Roger Burnette, age 46, of Naytahwaush, MN, died Sunday, September 1, 2019, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Roger Simon Burnette was born August 6, 1973, in Naytahwaush, MN, the son of Donavon and Julie (Burnette) Keezer. Lovingly known as Suzzie, he grew up and attended school in Naytahwaush and Mahnomen. As a young man, Roger entered the workforce at the Shooting Star Casino as a slot technician and attendant for several years before furthering his education at Detroit Lakes Technical College in the automotive department. Roger also studied Carpentry at the White Earth Tribal and Community College. After many years of employment, he retired early, due to health reasons.

Roger met Michelle Brown in 1996, and together they were blessed with three children. Even though the couple parted ways, they always remained good friends and took great pride in raising their children together. In 2014, he met Melinda Auginaush and together they have shared their lives with their families in Naytahwaush. Roger loved all his children and grandchildren unconditionally and genuinely treasured his time with each and every one of them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his love for family, he also loved the great outdoors and working with his hands. Roger enjoyed ricing, leeching, working with birch bark and other wood working projects. These were all activities he could be found doing and most of the time with family creating memories. Roger also passed his time visiting with friends and family, listening to music, playing cards, quarter games, and never turned down a trip to the casino!

Roger is survived by his significant other, Melinda Auginaush; his children: Curtis Brown, Casey Brown, Mariah Auginaush, Austin Burnette, Craige Brown, Dylan Burnette, Alicia Auginaush, Cassandra Hanks, Sarah Lyons, Randy Bellanger Jr., and Christina Pierre; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Liza Mason and Jessica Oppegard; good friend, Michelle (John Sargent Sr.) Brown; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister, Jennifer Burnette; and many and extended family.

A Time of Gathering will be held from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Friday, September 6, 2019, at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Naytahwaush, MN. Burial will be in the Samuel Memorial Episcopal Cemetery.
