Lawmakers will Receive Awards at CPAC Minnesota Next Wednesday

Alexandria, VA—The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF), host of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), has just released its ratings of the 2019 meeting of the Minnesota Legislature. ACUF’s Ratings of Congress and Ratings of the States are initiatives of ACUF’s Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA). These ratings are designed to reflect how over 8,000 elected officials across the nation view the role of government while illustrating the differences between chambers of the legislature and revealing lawmakers’ positions on a wide variety of issues that directly affect Minnesotans.

Next Wednesday, September 11th, ACUF will be hosting CPAC Minnesota outside of Minneapolis. The educational forum will commemorate the heroism of first responders and citizens around the country. The conclusion of the event will feature an award presentation to Minnesota lawmakers who scored 80% or better for the 2019 session.

CLA reviewed each piece of legislation voted on in both chambers of the legislature to produce average scores of each chamber as well as individual scores for each sitting member. The Minnesota Legislature’s overall conservative score fell compared to the 2018 session (from 50.34% to 43.93%).

Minnesota legislators voted on key issues during the 2019 session. In one or both chambers, they voted to increase funding for “clean” energy initiatives by millions of dollars, socialize the cost of broadband development, and allow union bosses to approve their own public-sector labor ‘agreements’ when the legislature is out of session.

Republican Minnesota House Representatives earned an average score of 85%, while 55 representatives earned awards for scoring 80% or better. Republican Minnesota Senators earned an average score of 86% percent, while 32 of 35 senators earned awards for the 2019 session. The overall average for the Minnesota Legislature was 43.93%.
