PFA Awards $7.5 Million in two Greater Minnesota Communities

Le Sueur County and the City of Pipestone to receive awards for water infrastructure projects

ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) announced today that Le Sueur County and the City of Pipestone will both receive awards for water infrastructure projects. 

“These water projects will protect Minnesota’s waterways and provide reliable water systems,” said Governor Tim Walz. “This is a perfect example of how state programs can help protect natural resources and improve infrastructure.” 

“Making sure Minnesotans have access to water is one of the most important responsibilities of government.” said Steve Grove, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. “These improvements will allow these Greater Minnesota communities to continue serving residents and businesses.”

Details on each award are as follows: 

Le Sueur County $6,090,682 

La Sueur county will use this funding for the construction of a low-pressure sanitary sewer system around West Jefferson Lake and to construct a force main to the city of Cleveland for treatment. A Point Source Implementation Grant of $4,872,546 will cover most of the costs. The rest of the funding will come from a Clean Water Revolving Fund (CWRF) loan of $1,218,136. The 12-year loan at one percent will save an estimated $36,184 when compared to market-rate financing. 

Pipestone $1,466,348 

This project consists of rehabilitating two existing water storage towers. The funding comes from a Drinking Water Revolving Fund (DWRF) loan of $293,270 and a $1,173,078 Water Infrastructure Fund grant. The 20-year, one percent DWRF loan is expected to save $17,852 when compared to the cost of market-rate financing. 

The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) provides financing and technical assistance to help communities build and maintain public infrastructure that protects public health and the environment and promotes economic growth. Since its inception in 1987 the PFA has financed $4.5 billion in public Infrastructure projects in communities throughout Minnesota.
