Growing Ojibwe and English Literacies Demonstration Project

PRIMARY FUNTION:

The instructor's main focus will be directed toward Ojibwe language for middle school students. The position is responsible for the retention, preservation, and to provide assistance to Middle School Ojibwe teacher(s) in Ojibwe language instruction. To assist in creating, developing, and implementing program related curriculum, as well as deliver Ojibwe language to small and large group settings. Reports to Immersion Director, part time, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Will work with other Red Lake tribal experts to insure the quality and accuracy of language delivery.

• Ability to work with other educational professionals in a collaborative process.

• Provides translations for students, parents, project staff.

• Provide a monthly report, monitor activities that would assist in the documentation of level of fluency and also will be responsible for the distribution and collection of language surveys to the students.

• Data collection for development of future language initiatives.

• Development of lesson plans for small and large group Ojibwe language instruction.

• All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• A.A. in Education or Native Studies.

• Must be fluent in the Ojibwe language.

• Must be knowledgeable with the Ojibwe culture, principle, values, and protocols.

• Have good work attendance and be dependable.

• Able to have a good working relationship with staff, partners, parents, volunteers.

• Must have a valid Minnesota Driver's License and auto insurance

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check
