English Literacy Specialist

Growing Ojibwe and English Literacies Demonstration Project

PRIMARY FUNTION:

This employee is responsible for planning and coordinating the primary and intermediate reading and language arts program for 50 project participants at the Red Lake Middle School. Reports to Immersion Director and Project Director, part time, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Coordinating the RLT Growing Ojibwe and English Literacies Demonstration Project staff in developing school reading and language arts program specific to Red Lake.

• Implement planned activities and meet project benchmarks.

• Assists teacher(s) with teaching/learning strategies that promote comprehension in all subject area.

• Model reading and language arts instruction in primary and intermediate classrooms.

• Assist teachers in assessing students for appropriate instruction.

• Maintaining current and efficient records and submitting appropriate data and reports.

• Interpreting the school's reading/learning program for staff, parents, and members of the Red Lake community.

• Serving as part of the RL wide education committee in developing activities and programs to disseminate information to Red Lake School Administration, Board, and RL Tribal Council.

• All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Education.

• Three (3) years of teaching experience.

• Experience in School programs or in a like position.

• Must have good work attendance and be dependable.

• Maintain confidentiality at all times.

• Able to have a good working relationship with staff, partners, parents, volunteers.

• Must have a valid Minnesota Driver's License and auto insurance

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check
