Services for young people with autism to be highlighted

Parents, caregivers, providers invited to Aug. 29 meeting in Mankato

Parents, caregivers and health care providers will have an opportunity in Mankato this month to learn about services available through Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare for children and young adults (up to age 21) with autism spectrum disorder and related conditions.

The Minnesota Department of Human Services will host the next in a series of public meetings about these services from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 29 in the second-floor conference room of the Blue Earth County Justice Center, 401 Carver Road, Mankato. Other stakeholders are invited to join parents, caregivers and providers at the meeting.

Topics to be covered by DHS staff will include:

• General autism information

• Services under Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention (EIDBI) benefit

• Accessing health care coverage.

Those attending will have plenty of time for questions.

Anyone who needs a reasonable accommodation or language assistance to participate in the meeting should email ASD.DHS@state.mn.us as soon as possible and state the type of accommodation needed.

Information about services available to families, caregivers and providers also is available on the DHS website, and questions can be emailed to the DHS ASD team.
