BP: Reigning winners fall on opening day of Birchmont match play

BEMIDJI -- The first day of match play got underway Wednesday at the 95th annual Birchmont Golf Tournament, and already multiple defending champions are out of the title hunt.

Defending men’s champion Nick Schaefer saw his hopes of repeating come to an end after losing 1-down to Duane Wages Jr. in a round-of-32 duel between the Grand Forks, N.D., golfers.
