MN350 Action applauds presidential candidate Inslee for announcing opposition to Line 3 in Minnesota

Environmental group urges Klobuchar, rest of field to show leadership by calling for end to reckless pipeline project

MN350 congratulates Washington governor and presidential candidate Jay Inslee for his strong statement opposing Enbridge Energy’s unnecessary and dangerous Line 3 tar sands pipeline project in Minnesota.

“Minnesota families deserve that we put their health and clean water above Enbridge Energy’s corporate profits,” Inslee said in an article published today on the news website MinnPost.

Andy Pearson of MN350 pointed to the urgent need for leadership during an era of rising global temperatures. "Gov. Inslee is right. The climate costs of Line 3 alone mean it should never be built. Line 3 would have the climate change impact of 50 coal power plants and supports one of the dirtiest and most unjust industries on the planet.”

Inslee two weeks ago criticized Enbridge’s Line 5, which runs below the Straits of Mackinac in Michigan. He called that project "a clear and present threat to the health of the Great Lakes and to our climate.”

Inslee also told MinnPost, “To defeat the climate crisis, we must transition our economy off fossil fuels to an economy run on clean energy, and that begins with rejecting new fossil fuel infrastructure.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont also has announced opposition to Line 3.

Brett Benson of MN350 Action said the vast majority of Minnesotans recognize the folly of expanding fossil fuel infrastructure. “Line 3 is equally a clear and present threat. It’s time for our own Sen. Amy Klobuchar and all of the Democratic presidential candidates to join Gov. Inslee and Sen. Sanders in opposing it.”

“For any political leaders serious about our climate, this needs to be a no-go,” Pearson added. “We look forward to hearing from more candidates and elected officials about their plans to stop this fossil fuel megaproject.”

MN350 Action is the political home for Minnesotans concerned about stopping the climate crisis. It mobilize voters statewide to elect climate champions and to demand an end to policies favoring fossil fuel interests over the interests of Minnesota communities. It is the companion organization to MN350, one of the leading nonprofit advocates for climate justice in the state.
