Day of Honor for Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm on July 18

WHAT: July 18th marks the first anniversary of the death of Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm. To honor the memory and sacrifice of Officer Gomm, a memorial ceremony will be held at MCF-Stillwater on July 18, 2019 at 1 p.m. Media that plan to attend need to arrive no later than 12:30 p.m. There will be a designated media staging area during the ceremony. Media will need to check in at this location upon their arrival.

The Day of Honor “Ceremony of Remembrance" will be held at the flag pole on the lawn of the historic warden's house directly across the street from MCF-Stillwater. DOC Chaplain Marty Shanahan will lead the ceremony, which will include a DOC Honor Guard, words from Commissioner Schnell, a moment of silence in Officer Gomm’s memory, and the unveiling of a bench and rock monument in honor of Officer Gomm.
