A group of Ontario teachers sent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a silent message by holding up pieces of paper spelling out “Attawapiskat” at what was planned as a non-partisan event where he could speak to the group that represents Canada’s teachers.
The Canadian Teachers’ Federation hosted Trudeau for an armchair discussion with its vice-president, Heidi Yetman, on Thursday. Minutes after their chat began, about eight teachers held up pages with the letters that spelled out the name of the 2,000-person First Nation community that has declared a state of emergency because of dangerous chemical levels detected in its drinking water.
