Law will give blueberry growers more say on commission

AUGUSTA — A bill sponsored by Rep. Robert Alley (D-Beals) to give blueberry growers an equal role on the Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine was signed into law by Governor Janet Mills last week. The bill was enacted unanimously in both the House and the Senate.

“I had heard a lot of complaints from wild blueberry growers that their business was in trouble,” Alley said. “Last year harvests were down but prices were still low. The growers felt it was important to have more representation, and more diverse representation, on the commission to help them get things turned around.”
