Delta Dental of Minnesota donates more than 5,600 toothbrushes to families in the greater Bemidji region

Donation program in honor of National Smile Month in June

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – In honor of National Smile Month this June, Delta Dental of Minnesota is donating approximately 50,000 toothbrushes to Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the state, including 5,616 to Boys & Girls Clubs in the Bemidji region. To improve oral health care and build awareness throughout the month of June, Delta Dental of Minnesota is partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs on this initiative as a way to reach young people throughout the state and promote healthy lifestyles.

Through National Smile Month, Delta Dental of Minnesota aims to spread awareness of the importance of good oral health and the habits needed to maintain a healthy smile. Research shows that good oral health is linked to longer lives and reduced risk of diseases and certain cancers, in addition to the confidence boost that comes from a healthy, happy, smile.

“At Delta Dental of Minnesota, we are committed to improving the health of all Minnesotans through oral health. We are grateful that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Minnesota will help deliver these toothbrushes throughout the summer – this is a great time to educate on the importance of oral hygiene,” said Joe Lally, Vice President, Government & Community Relations of Delta Dental of Minnesota. “These clubs are working with young people and their families in all corners of our state to enable them to have bright futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens and we believe a healthy smile is part of that.”

The toothbrushes will be given to youth and their families participating in Boys & Girls Clubs programs at 11 sites including Bemidji, Cass Lake, Detroit Lakes, Duluth, Elk River, Minneapolis, Perham, the Red Lake Reservation, Rochester, St. Cloud and the White Earth Reservation. Donations in the Bemidji region include 1,440 toothbrushes to the Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area, 1,440 to the Boys & Girls Club of the Leech Lake Area and 2,736 to the Red Lake Nation Boys & Girls Club.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America serve four million young people each year through 4,300 clubs located in cities, towns, public housing and on Native lands throughout the country. The clubs promote academic success, good character and citizenship, and heathy lifestyles through programs offered during non-school hours.
