Faron James Blakely, Sr.

Faron James Blakely, Sr.

January 2, 1972 ~ June 6, 2019 (age 47)

Faron James Blakely, Sr., “Giiwedin” which means “North Wind”, age 47, of Fargo, North Dakota began his journey to the spirit world on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN of interstitial lung disease and cryptogenic organized pneumonia. Faron was born to Diana (Johnson) Blakely and Irvin Bonga on January 2, 1972 in Park Rapids, MN.

Faron was a man of many talents and interests. You might’ve known him as an artist of several mediums, which he enjoyed sharing through Facebook. You may have seen him dancing in his vibrant traditional regalia at a powwow. Or maybe you shared a good conversation and joke with him while reminiscing about his south Minneapolis days. How ever you choose to remember him, we can all agree he was a genuine friend who treated everyone with respect and kindness. Faron was a family man, he adored his relatives. He held them near to his heart and loved to visit during gatherings. If he wasn’t eating the delicious food, he enjoyed a competitive game of horseshoes or cribbage. He found solace in listening to music and playing his guitar. He and his wife attended Moondance Jam every year. And if you saw him, his wife of 17 years was always close by. She was the love of his life and he wasn’t afraid to show it. They were inseparable, always going places together and spending time with their children.

Faron cherished his kids. He wasn’t shy to tell you he wanted to be the father he didn’t have. He was the baseball-coach-taxi-driving-shooting-hoops-take-your-daughter-fishing type of dad, who always found time to teach his kids about life. He was the definition of what a father’s love looked like. And when he became a grandfather, his circle was complete. You can be assured his love will be carried into his next generation. Faron wasn’t a stranger to hardships but he didn’t let them define him either, not even when he became an amputee at the young age of 19. Creator provided him with a life that he chose to live to the fullest, always thankful to see another day. So, when you think of him remember the inspiring words he spoke and the laughs you shared. He was an example of love and a life well-lived.

Family that Faron is reunited with are his father; Irvin Bonga, his brother; Henry Blakely and his grandparents; Bill and Eva Johnson.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife; Lauretta Blakely of Fargo, children; Ladelia and Evelyn Blakely both of Inver Grove Heights, Faron Jr., Brandon and Janey Blakely all of Fargo, his mother; Diana Blakely of Fargo, siblings; Marvin and Roxane Blakely both of Fargo, three grandchildren; Aaliyah, Alsina and Damiaer, nieces and nephews; Nicole, Patricia, Niomi, Justin, Alvin and Joseph, numerous other relatives and many friends.
