Leonard Jay Sumner

April 23, 1970 ~ June 3, 2019 (age 49)

Leonard Jay Sumner, age 49, of Red Lake, Minnesota began his journey home on Monday, June 3, 2019 from Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN. He was born to Margaret (Hill) and Henry Sumner, Sr. on April 23rd, 1970 in Red Lake, MN.

Leonard was always telling jokes to make people laugh and was the life of the party. He was the kind of guy who loved to terrorize his friends, in fun of course, and had a great sense of humor. Leonard was employed with the 7 Clans Casino in Thief River Falls as a Security Guard for the past 17 years. He had a love/hate relationship with his work, he loved being with his friends and co-workers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, cruising the backs roads with his drinks and he was the Minnesota Twin's biggest fan. What Leonard enjoyed the most was spending time with his granddaughter and his children and the rest of his family.

Family that Leonard is reunited with are his parents; Margaret and Henry Sumner, Sr., sisters; Karen and Ramona Sumner, brother; Henry Sumner, Jr. and the mother of his children; Karen Bedeau.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children; Eli, Lenelle, Lenette and Dylan Sumner and Dravyn Stately, special daughter; Shaliecia Geionety, very special granddaughter; Avrianna White, sister; Thelma (Bill) May, brother; Stuart Sumner, aunts; Gloria Neadeau and Betty Beaulieu, numerous nieces and nephews, all of his friends and his co-workers from 7 Clans Casino.

The wake for Leonard will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6th and continue until his 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, June 8th all to be held at the New Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN. Father Jerry Rogers will officiate. Helping to lay Leonard to rest are Nicholas Sumner, Keith Sumner, John Graves, Kenny Graves, Perry White and Johnathan Kingbird. Alternate pallbearers are Moose Jones and Jeff Schoenborn. His honorary pallbearers are Sam Hill, Tony Hill, Bill May, Dylan Sumner, Kerry Benton, Robin Roy Preston Sumner, Richard Sumner, Burt Benton, Wayne Brown and his co-workers and friends from the Thief River Falls 7 Clans Casino.
