Victor "Sonny" David Abrahamson

November 27, 1955 - June 1, 2019

Victor D. "Sonny" Abrahamson, 63 of Devils Lake formerly of Sheyenne and Maddock, ND passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND with loving family at his side.

Victor David Abrahamson was born on November 27, 1955 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Clifford D. and Beatrice (Jetty) Abrahamson. His father was a police officer and the family lived in several locations including Devils Lake, Aneta, Cando and Langdon. Sonny was at one time married to Deb Klemisch and they were the proud parents of a daughter Chanda.

While in Langdon Sonny worked for Boeing, was a bouncer for several Devils Lake taverns, spent 12 years managing the Sheyenne Bar. In 2005 he found his dream job working Security at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort.

Sonny was united in marriage to Dawn Anderson in 1984. They eventually made their home in the country in the Sheyenne and Maddock areas. There, Sonny raised and broke quarter horses. Most recently, Sonny and Dawn made their home in Devils Lake.

Sonny had many talents including being very successful as a Golden Gloves Boxer and receiving many accolades on the rodeo circuit as a Team Roper and Bull Rider. He was also active on the Anderson family farm and ranch.

Sonny was an avid hunter, including many hunting trips to Wyoming, Canada, Montana, Idaho and throughout North Dakota. You didn't turn the channel when he was watching a hunting program or a Western movie on TV. He also enjoyed reading Western novels from his favorite author Craig Johnson.

Sonny was always a good and trustworthy friend and neighbor. He worked hard to support his family and was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and cousin.

Sonny's family include his wife Dawn; daughter Chanda (Jason) Klemisch, Fargo, ND; step-son John Barnard, Raleigh, NC; sons James Abrahamson, Minot, ND, Thomas Abrahamson, Devils Lake, Cameron (Alyssa) Abrahamson, Thief River Falls, MN and Michael Abrahamson, Devils Lake; grandchildren Jada Rain, Noah-Hunter, Amber (Anastasiya), Ginna, Victoria, Sebastian, Hannah, Phoenix, Daxon-and one soon to be born; siblings Connie (Dick) Curtis, Liz (Bob) Doherty, John Aslakson, Donny Abrahamson and Dean Abrahamson; god child Morgan Anderson; aunts Gloria Jetty and Betty Morin; in-laws Ron Anderson and Betty Ditter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Scott (Tammy) Anderson, Kirby Anderson, Gayla Martin, Tammi Hoffart, Lisa (Terry) Thue, Rhonda (Jeff) Russo; brother and sister from another mother Cynthia Lindquist and Eddy Greene; numerous nieces and nephews and their families;

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Clifford Abrahamson Jr.; granddaughter Sophia Leaf-Abrahamson; grandparents Albert and May (Butters) Abrahamson, Ambrose and Frances (Lohnes) Jetty and step father-in-law David Ditter.

Honorary Bearers for Sonny will be Scott Anderson, Kirby Anderson, Paul Matheny, Bob Charboneau, Eddy Greene and B.J. Rohr.

Funeral Services for Sonny will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Recreation Center with Father Paul Schuster officiating. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 12:00 noon on Thursday from City Plaza.
