Jarret Jay Cook, (Khoshkalaka Mani Wakinya) (Young Man That Walks With Thunder) passed away on May 24, 2019 in Fort Totten. Jarret was 27 years old.

The Wake for Jarret will be held at the Fort Totten Recreation Center on Thursday, May 30, 2019 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. from the City Plaza.

Funeral Services for Jarret will be held at the Recreation Center on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Larry Thiele officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery, rural Fort Totten.

Pallbearers will be Braxton Luger, Mikey McDonald, Kolby McKay, Rafael Barragan, Javiar de la Paz, Shane Eback, Jacob Eback and Clayton Flock. Jarret was born at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND. He attended Oberon Elementary until 4th grade, started attending Four Winds beginning with the 5th grade. He began break dancing in Middle School. He met Brittany Jo in 2005 at a school dance. They had their first child, Kayonna Marie in August of 2007. Though a young father, both Jarret and Brittany graduated from Four Winds High School in 2010. While attending school, he enjoyed playing football, basketball, break dancing and playing video games.

After high school, Jaret began Fire Fighting and his MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) career. He also attended Little Hoop Community College where he received his carpentry certificate. Soon after he became very passionate about his health and fitness, continuing his fight career until his son Jayden Grant Cook was born in 2015. He then began working at Sioux Manufacturing until recently beginning his boxing career with Tiwahe Boxing Club. June 27, 2019 would have been the beginning of his much anticipated boxing career.

Jarret was loved and will be missed by many.

Whiteshield; sistesr Tara (Clayton) Cavanaugh and Katie Cook; brothers Jaydean (Kerry) Alberts, Zack (Kiesha) Alberts, Christopher (Breann) Cook; Talayna, Tori and Nadia Alberts, Brislee Cook; nephews Kaylen Georgeson, Osias, Orison and Mayson Flock, Jaydean Alberts, Jr., Chris Cook Jr. and Brayden Cook; aunts Alfreda (Bob) Dunn, Alberta (Ted) Snell, Karen Cook, Sherry Sanders and Carol Hicks; uncles Max Cook, Ronnie Cook, Calvin Dunn, Maynard Dunn, Terry Dunn, and Tyrel Alberts;

Jarret was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Angeline and Buddy Alberts; paternal grandparents Max and Cecelia Cook; aunts Budene Alberts, Kerry TwoHearts, Theresa TwoHearts; uncle Scott Cook; niece Kayleetha Skye Georgeson; life-long friends Grant Davidson and Wambli DuBois.
