Memorial Day Weekend Kicks off Summer at MNHS

Next weekend marks the start of summer at MNHS historic sites and museums. Several sites from Charles Lindbergh House and Museum to Historic Fort Snelling to Jeffers Petroglyphs will open their doors to the general public for the 2019 season, and visitors can enjoy a range of events across the state, including:

• Memorial Day Powwow, Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post, May 27: This annual celebration honors Native veterans past and present. Plus, enjoy a festival of local Native musicians (May 25) and a showcase of Minnesota's premier Native artists (May 26 & 27).

• Memorial Day Weekend, Historic Fort Snelling, May 25-27: Experience blacksmithing, cannon firing, historic games and more to learn about the many stories that intersect at Fort Snelling. On Memorial Day, enjoy a special living timeline of costumed staff and reenactors sharing Minnesota's military history across a variety of eras.

• They Built This Town Cemetery Tour, Historic Forestville, May 25: Take guided tours of the Zumbro Hill Cemetery where many of Forestville's early residents are buried.

• Historic Forestville: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Historic Fort Snelling: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Jeffers Petroglyphs: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Lac qui Parle Mission: 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

• Marine Mill: dawn to dusk

• Mill City Museum: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Minnesota History Center: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Oliver Kelley Farm: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Sibley Historic Site: 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

• Snake River Fur Post: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Split Rock Lighthouse: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
