Deal reached for new protections against Minnesota elder abuse, neglect

Glen Stubbe – Star Tribune

A year ago, relatives of elder abuse victims gathered outside the House chamber to protest legislative inaction over proposals that would have protected seniors from abuse. This week, senior citizen advocates and industry groups finally struck a compromise that would create far-reaching protections.

A landmark agreement has been struck to overhaul Minnesota's porous system for protecting seniors from abuse and neglect.

Senior advocacy groups, state regulators and the elder care industry finalized the deal Tuesday after two years of contentious deliberations, hearings and protests.
