9th Annual Red Lake Elder's Gathering held at Seven Clans Event Center - P4


RED LAKE, MN – The 9th Annual Red Lake Elder's Gathering was held at the Seven Clans Event Center on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

The event is put on every year to keep the elders in the community informed about new projects and services being offered by the Red Lake Tribe.

Day One of the two day event began at 8 AM with registration and breakfast, following by the Opening Ceremony with Greeting Spears Jr., the Red Lake Nation Honor Guard, Red Lake Nation Royalty and the Welcome and Opening Remarks by Red Lake Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki Sr.

Roberta Bellanger of Indian Health Services, gave a presentation on Health Insurances, upcoming projects were presented which included the Mino-Bimaadiziwim Project, the Solar Project, 8-plex Elderly Units and Net Zero Homes, and a presentation by the Red Lake Public Safety Department.

After lunch Marc Yaffee entertained with his comedy show and there was a Free Prize Bingo from 2 PM to 3 PM.

Booths were also set up for Red Lake Tribal IDs, Tribal Programs information, Indian Health Services, Red Lake Nation College, Red Lake DNR, Red Lake Elderly Maintenance, the Red Lake Nation newsletter, family and children services, senior companion programs, housing initiatives, public safety and more.

Activities in the evening included a Cribbage Tournament and a Slot Tournament with cash prizes.

There were at least 300 in attendance throughout the day.

Day two activities on Thursday include a presentation on the Red Lake Constitution Reform Initiative, the Youth Showcase which will honor the Red Lake Lady Warriors basketball team for being 8A Section Champions and participating in the Minnesota State Tournament, the King and Queen selection and entertainment by the band "Travesty," which will also include a dance contest for cash prizes.

Grand prize drawings and the Closing Ceremony is scheduled after lunch at 1 PM.
