Body Recovered on Red Lake Reservation Identified as 26 Year Old Dillon James Sayers

RED LAKE, MN. - The Red Lake Department of Public Safety confirmed today that a body recovered on April 25th on the Red Lake Reservation has been identified as 26-year old Dillon James Sayers.

Sayers was reported missing on October 30th, 2018 but was last seen on October 23rd, 2018 when family members dropped him off at his home on the Red Lake Reservation. Red Lake law enforcement immediately appealed to the public requesting information on Sayers' whereabouts. Based on information received during the course of the missing person investigation, two areas of interest were identified east of Red Lake.

A search of those areas on April 24th was conducted by the Red Lake Department of Public Safety, FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The search also included two cadaver dogs from a Missouri search and rescue organization with the remains being located in one of those areas.

The scene was secured overnight and on April 25th, the FBI Evidence Response Team exhumed the remains which were sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office and were positively identified as Dillon James Sayers.

The case remains open and the cause of death remains under investigation by the Red Lake Department of Public Safety and FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force. People directly responsible for Sayers' death and any others who may have assisted and/or concealed information will be considered equally responsible and charged accordingly.
