Lydia Alice Handboy-Charger (Badten) was born on November 22, 1968 at Bennet Hospital in Rapids City, South Dakota to Norma Rita Handboy-Charger (Badten) and Neil Howard. Lydia grew up in Rapid City South Dakota, until the age of three, then was placed in foster care and then adopted. Cleo and Dale Badten of Aberdeen, South Dakota, adopted Lydia. Lydia attended school at Aberdeen Central high school. After, high school, Lydia moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and had one daughter, Jasmine. Lydia loved to read and had many friends. She was also enrolled in the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. On April 20, 2019, Lydia passed away in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Survivors include Lydia's daughter: Jasmine Badten of South Minneapolis; adoptive father: Dale Badten of Aberdeen, South Dakota; one biological sister: Tamara Brands-Schiebout a.k.a. Tracey Ann Handboy-Charger of Slayton, Minnesota; one Biological brother: Thomas Brands a.k.a. Casey Handboy-Charger of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; half-brothers: Franklyn Bluedog (Badten) of Mankato, Minnesota, Lance Bluedog (Badten) of Denver, Colorado, and Kurtis, seven nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Lydia is preceded in death by her biological mother: Norma Handboy-Charger Wilson; biological father: Neil Howard; and adoptive mother: Cleo Badten.

Honorary Casket bearers are Tamara Schiebout, Jayson Schiebout, Davis Vander Wal, Frank Badten, Alyssa Martinez and Hope Badten.
