Red Lake Homeless Shelter receives grant from Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless

Red Lake, Minnesota – April 23rd, 2019 – Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless has granted Red Lake Homeless Shelter with $9,200 to provide more meals to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Funding from Open Your Heart will provide Red Lake Homeless Shelter Inc. with a new reach-in fridge and freezer. The Red Lake Homeless Shelter is an emergency shelter that is open 24 hours, 365 days a year and is committed to helping all individuals with emergency shelter and resources to find housing. The shelter serves 250 - 300 clients a year. With a new reach-in fridge and freezer, Red Lake Homeless Shelter Inc. can store more food and provide better balanced meals to its clients.

Open Your Heart looks for gaps in funding of services based on geographic or demographic considerations and reaches out to agencies serving those communities. They support programs in communities where many traditional funders do not reach – volunteer run domestic violence shelters, homeless programs in sparsely served remote corners of the state, inner city programs dedicated to serving the poorest among us, and hunger programs serving clientele with special needs. Their primary goal is to ensure that front line providers of crisis services have the tools, equipment, and infrastructure necessary to carry out their work.

Grants are awarded on a bi-monthly basis and are considered only through the application process. Applications can be obtained at http://www.oyh.org/grant-programs/.
