Empowered Youth Development Initiatives Workshop In Bemidji On May 5th

(Bemidji) The Empowered Youth Development Initiatives Workshop (EYDIW) will be held on Sunday, May 5th at Bemidji High School. The workshop encourages the development of strategies to strengthen the “at-potential status” of all children. “We often hear of our children being at-risk,” said workshop director Dan Ninham. “ We believe in the strength-based thought that children are at-potential. We not only encourage our children to take charge of their life and to develop their potential but we also encourage our adults to develop and refine tools to get them there.”

The two strands of two – three hour sessions are Classroom Management featuring Maajiigwaneyaash Jourdain, EdD, Misaabekong Ojibwe Immersion Language Program with “Brain-based Exercises For Developing the Synapses of Children” and Susan Ninham, EdS, EYDI, with “Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports for Effective Classroom Management” and the other strand is Art featuring traditional blanket maker Rick Kagigebi with “What is Your Story? Storytelling Blankets: Where Native American Culture, Art and Mathematics Come Together” and Molly Wiste, Visual Arts Instructor at Bemidji Middle School, with “Empowering Students To Find Their Voice Through Art.”

“We encourage these teaching skills to be implemented in all classrooms in integrated teaching and learning,” added Ninham. “All workshops are hands-on with individual and small group work.”

There is a special offer two-for-one pre-registration fee of $99 including lunch on site and professional development certificate. The pre-registration deadline is May 2nd. The on-day registration fee is $119 per person. For more information and to get on the workshop network, contact Dan Ninham at 218.368.6430 or coach.danninham@gmail.com
