AUTHOR READING, BOOK RELEASE, ART EXHIBIT AND MUSIC HIGHLIGHT 2019 FINE ARTS WEEK AT FDLTCC

The Fine Arts departments at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College are presenting a schedule of activities on campus to celebrate Fine Arts Week during April 15 through April 19, 2019. The events include music, art exhibits, literary performances and other art activities. All activities are free and open to the public.

A highlight of Fine Arts Week will be a reading and writers’ workshop with author Julie Gard on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The public reading by Gard is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in the campus commons and amphitheater. The writing workshop will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Room 228. No pre-registration is required for the public reading and free workshop.

Julie Gard focuses on poetry, essays, and stories. She resides in Duluth and is a former Fulbright Graduate Fellow in Vladivostok, Russia. Gard is currently an Associate Professor of Writing at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Her prose poetry collections include Home Studies (New Rivers Press), which was a finalist for the 2016 Minnesota Book Award; Scrap: On Louise Nevelson (Ravenna Press); and the chapbooks Obscura: The Daguerreotype Series (Finishing Line Press) and Russia in 17 Objects (Tiger's Eye Press). Julie’s essays, poems, and stories have appeared in Superstition Review, Gertrude, Fourth River, Clackamas Literary Review, Crab Orchard Review, Ekphrasis, and Blackbox Manifold, among other journals and anthologies.

Fine Arts Week begins on Monday, April 15, with a Spring Feast at noon and a video showcase in the Ojibwemowining Resource Center at 2:00 p.m. An Art Exhibit of student work will be on display in the Commons all week.

On Tuesday, April 16, the newest edition of The Thunderbird Review, the literary anthology published by Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, is set to be released. The release party, including readings by the authors, will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the commons and amphitheater. All are welcome to join the party to read their work, enjoy refreshments, and pick up a copy of the journal.

Wednesday, April 17, features an Open Mic hosted by the Music Club on campus at noon in the amphitheater. Anishinaabe Crafting will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Waakaa’igan House on campus.

On Thursday, April 18, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the amphitheater, the Li’l Thunder Learning Center will showcase their talented young students with a concert. The author reading by Julie Gard takes place at noon in the amphitheater, followed by the writers’ workshop led by Gard at 2:00 p.m. in Room 228.

Finally, an improvisational music workshop will take place at noon on Friday, April 19, in the commons and amphitheater.
