BP: Inmate quickly recaptured after escape from Bemidji clinic

BEMIDJI-A 39-year-old man in the custody of Red Lake Nation Corrections fled during a visit to Sanford Main Clinic on Wednesday.

The man fled the hospital on foot at noon and was arrested approximately 20 minutes later in the area of Supreme Court Northwest, less than a mile away. During the pursuit, the man allegedly managed to get out of the shackles around his legs.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, the Bemidji Police Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol were all involved in the search for the man. Once arrested, he was transferred back to the custody of Red Lake corrections.

Sanford Health could not immediately provide any information on what the inmate was being treated for, or if he was a patient at all.
