HEAD START PROGRAM

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Supportive role while carrying out developmentally appropriate activities; promotes the health, nutrition, education of the children and attend to their safety and welfare. Reports to Director, full-time position with benefits, salary; Negotiable.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Part A Implement educational program for children assigned
• Assesses the needs of each child and develops a yearly individual learning plan
• Utilizes developmentally appropriate practices and guidance
• Effectively mainstreams children with special needs into the program
• Maintains a healthy emotional climate in the classroom setting
• Completes student records and reports accurately
• Completes weekly preparation of lesson plans and materials
• Conducts a minimum of two home visits per year and additional as deemed necessary
• Makes prompt referrals to the Family Service Advocate when the child has missed consecutive days
Part B Utilizes parents as team members of accomplish Head Start objectives
• Encourages parent participation in the Head Start Program
• Provide parents with volunteer information
• Conducts Parent/Teacher conferences twice a year
• Complete parent participation records and reports accurately
• Assure that parent information is given to bus rider for prompt distribution
Part C Promotes staff development
• Attends all Head Start in-service sessions and staff meetings
• Periodically makes presentations as requested
• Continually seeks on going career development
• Must be familiar with current Head Start Performance Standards
• Responsible for maintaining monthly program records and reports as designated
• Maintains organizational properties of classroom environment
Part D Documentation and other needs
• Follows the recommendations of Administrative staff when program improvement is needed
• Promotes the Head Start philosophy among staff, parents and community
• Maintains strict confidentiality at all times
• Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE
• Associates Degree (Early Childhood Education) or Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with Early Childhood Endorsement
• Three (3) years in successful work experience in a formal preschool setting
• Experience in Teaching Strategies Gold and Creative Curriculum
• Must be flexible, self-starter and able to travel both in and out of state
• Must possess a Minnesota Driver's License
• Must be CPR/First Aid certified
• Negative TB test prior to employment
• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check
